Agricultural Development Workshops

Agricultural research is an economic activity that involves the allocation of scarce resources to produce knowledge in order to increase agricultural productivity and to meet other societal goals. Therefore the challenge here is to be able to treat expenditures on agricultural research as an investment which has to improve agricultural productivity and, at the same time, meet other social objectives. But, being aware of the financial state of the country, MES has taken the charge of spreading awareness about agricultural issues in Vidarbha region.

Our neighbouring areas are dependent on agricultural produce for their survival but the land here is rocky and hostile. The land is unproductive and, combined with the lack of rains; the people here suffer greatly due to insufficiency of produce. The issues that the society deals with here are:

  • The fact that agriculture technology needs to reach out to the farmers to ensure proper development is the most important issue that is dealt with
  • The importance of allied sectors and issues including animal husbandry, fisheries and water conservation in cohesion with farming.
  • The means in which water can be harvested to ensure better water supply
  • Developing Indian herbal medicines that can be a cure as well as a source of income for the poor farming population.
