Eye Check-up Camps

Eye is an productive asset that influences economic growth significantly. The society recognizes that attainment of eye health indicators have been very uneven across the rural-urban divide. Access to public eye care services is nominal and health standards are grossly inadequate for the vulnerable sections of the society. The overall objectives of our eye care programs have been promotion of positive eye check up, prevention of diseases, early diagnosis-treatment of Cataract and follow up of complicated eye disease.

With our experience we have found that there is immense need to strengthen the eye care process in both urban and rural areas. One of the challenges in bringing eye care to poor and remote regions is letting people know that eye care is available. To spread the word in advance of the eye camp, messages about the camp was spread through banners, pamphlets and word of mouth publicity. Pamphlets were distributed through various channels such as the health staff, school teachers, students and community leaders.

A large number of patients were examined in regard to Cataract, Glaucoma, Diabetic eye diseases & refractive errors, out of which 12 patients were selected for cataract eye surgery. Interested patients were recommended for operation. The other patients were provided with free consultation, spectacles and medicines. The program was of great help to the community, as all the screened children were unaware of the problems they were facing. Most of them had never been to any formal eye specialist as either they are uneducated or were contract laborers who work till late evening and do not get time to visit doctor. This makes the entire effort of the society even more important in our area, where healthcare is given minimal importance.
