Self Employment Training for Women

MES is of the belief that concentrating on merely one aspect is never enough. Education, in itself, cannot be a solution for all the problems that are encountered by the village population. To this extent, the society has also taken strides in social welfare fields to make sure that no facet of the society remains underdeveloped. As is well known, women in villages do little other than caring for the family and working in the fields. This means that an enormous amount of talent remains unused. MES has been working in this field since 1984 when we started CCTC certificate course of Tailoring and Cutting and CCF&W Certificate course of Embroidery and Fancy Work. With the aid of these courses, thousands of women are self employed and their jobs have been essential in providing their families with basic needs and amenities.

Our Self-employment training camps provide women with a different outlook towards life. We encourage those women who have a business idea and possess transferable skills, or owners of existing part-time businesses, or those with fewer than 12 months of business operations the opportunity to take their business to the next level. We also offer training and support services to women who want to establish and operate small businesses along with providing women with an orientation to self-employment and an opportunity to develop the personal and business skills required to set up and operate a small business.

Women face a double burden of castism and sexism, which prevent them from attaining full participation in Indian society. Many also suffer from additional problems such as language barriers and isolation. Their inability to speak an official language gives them little chance of finding satisfactory employment or defending their rights in the work place. The camps tend to help women solve all such problems and encourage them to develop their own entrepreneurial ventures. MES has covered 10 villages in the Vidarbha region through this program.
